"description": "Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) mission is "Building partnerships to transform violence and oppression." CPT acts in solidarity with people impacted by war by accompanying them, advocating with them, and amplifying their voices at home and around the world. Weldon Nisly will share CPT history and stories of our local partners committed to peacebuilding and human rights while confronting war and oppression. Weldon has served with the CPT Iraq (2003 & 2010), Iraqi Kurdistan (2014-2022), and Palestine (2017 & 2018) teams, but will primarily focus on CPT's work in Iraqi Kurdistan where Kurds are impacted by the ongoing War of Terror initiated and defined by the United States. Weldon Nisly is a peace activist and retired pastor. Prior to leading congregations in Cincinnati and Seattle for nearly 30 years, Weldon served with the Mennonite Church and Mennonite Central Committee in peace and poverty ministries. His commitment to peacebuilding has taken him to war zones in Nicaragua, Palestine and Iraq. ",
