Despite the big deal that's made about places like Charlotte, Durham, and Raleigh, most of North Carolina is rural. Out of the state's 100 counties, 80 are rural, which means you can't turn North Carolina blue by solely relying on its urban centers. For a reference point, President Obama won at least 40 percent of the vote in 55 of North Carolina's rural counties. It's clear that small towns and rural communities will be central to winning progressive victories, but it won't happen if this important group of multiracial, working class voters are discounted. If you want to make sure we turnout voters in North Carolina's rural communities, join Down Home North Carolina to call 40,000 rural voters about how re-electing Governor Cooper and flipping the North Carolina state legislature are the recipe for eliminating voter suppression and passing important legislation in 2021 like Medicaid Expansion.
