"description": "Kirklees Council's Climate Emergency Declaration is under threat, with a proposed Kirklees Council Motion 20 (21/10/26) put forward for the 'Undeclaration of Climate Emergency'. The Kirklees Climate Emergency declaration has been in force since 2019. The effects of climate breakdown have been all too evident this summer with wildfires, droughts and unstable weather events across the UK and world. To 'undeclare' a climate emergency at such a time is grossly irresponsible and would bring Kirklees Council into disrepute. Failing to act on the climate emergency will have severe and harmful consequences for Kirklees citizens. Please join Huddersfield Friends of the Earth and Huddersfield Greenpeace for a peaceful demonstration outside Hudderfield Town Hall to call on councillors across Kirklees to safeguard the Climate Emergency declaration and to oppose the proposed Motion 20 to 'undeclare' the Climate Emergency. We will be standing alongside and supporting Kirklees Stand up to Racism's 'No place for racism in our town hall' demonstration responding to comments made by Kirklees Councillor Tracy Clayton. Please bring placards and banners to support both demonstrations",
