"description": "Back office training 19th December 7pm (1.5 hours) FREE. ONLINE. Captions available. Want to know what a Back Office is and how to run one during an action with SCALP? Come to this training ! The Back Office is an integral part of the legal support ecosystem. It gathers information about those who are arrested, and puts in motion police station support and sometimes court support. You can do it from home, making it an accessible way for many to support action and is great for those who prefer not to be in large demonstration situations for whatever reason. If you are planning actions or protest, or are part of actions or protest, do come along to find out what legal support is all about. We at SCALP always appreciate more volunteers so you can support our mutual aid work, and the protest itself. We need more volunteers to be part of our brilliant Back Office team! Looking forward to seeing you there! You can sign up to be a Back Office volunteer only once you have completed one of our Back Office trainings AND a Know Your Rights training. The next Know Your Rights training is the 6th December 2023 at 7pm: https://actionnetwork.org/events/know-your-rights-intro-to-scots-law?source=direct_link& The next Know Your Rights training after that will be in January. Info to follow soon. General Principles: We’re talking about Scottish Law only We’re not lawyers - there are plenty of good reasons to get professional legal advice - we offer these trainings to support activists and community. We recognise that Police are institutionally racist and disproportionately police certain communities. COVID regulations are frequently changing. Facilitators will work to ensure that all trainings are as welcoming as possible and that any abusive or oppressive behaviour is challenged. Anyone who continues to behave in an unacceptable way may be removed from the call. If there is anything we can do to make the training safer or more accessible for you, please let us know when you register (such as providing transcripts etc). The training will not be recorded but we will run more in the future. Captions: When entering the meeting it will say 'this is being livestreamed'. This is only so that the sound can be livestreamed to the computer software for the automated captions. It is not being livestreamed anywhere else. To use the captions you can turn them on by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the zoom window next to where it says 'chat' etc, and clicking 'show subtitles'. About SCALP: The Scottish Community and Activist Legal Project (SCALP) is a collective of social and environmental justice activists, working to challenge police abuse, monitor protest policing and provide legal guidance. https://www.scottishactivistlegalproject.co.uk/ Instagram: @activists_legal Twitter: @activists_legal Facebook: @activists.legal",
