"description": "This field day is open to all farmers and focuses on practical, on-farm approaches to groundwater management and cover cropping. You’ll get a clear overview of what the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) means for your operation, now and in the future. Farmers Colin Muller and Rich Collins will share results from recent trials of low-biomass winter cover crops planted in furrow bottoms. They’ll talk through what worked, what didn’t, and how these practices fit into real row-crop systems. The field day will cover how furrow-bottom cover crops may affect water infiltration and what those outcomes could mean for groundwater management requirements going forward. The focus is on real fields, local data, and practical takeaways. Eligible farmers may receive a free 36-inch soil moisture probe. Probes are available to qualifying operations (generally farms of 200 acres or less). Farmers can stop by the side table during the event to check eligibility and complete required paperwork. Supplies are limited. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited and RSVP required (exact address shared after registration) This event is hosted by CAFF and funded by the California Department of Water Resources’ Underrepresented Communities, California Tribes, and Small Farmers Groundwater Technical Assistance Program.",
