"description": "Cigarette butts are the litter items most abundantly found during clean-up activities. When public spaces such as schools and hospitals become smoke-free, there is the unintended consequence of litter, since there is no eco-friendly way of disposal. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in the Netherlands has a smoke-free campus since 2020, yet over 8500 cigarette butts were counted, collected and mapped in only one month. A team of WUR staff and students has investigated how to raise awareness among smokers and nudge their behaviour, without stigmatizing. They are now implementing the findings in a university-wide project. In this webinar, initiator Marjolijn Dannenburg will share more about the research, experiences and outcomes of "the butt in the drain" project.",
