"description": "In our continued efforts to fight for the Special Education Services Chicago’s Students Deserve, we are collaborating with advocates to demand better for our students. The CTU invites you to a training on filing a written state complaint with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). A written state complaint is filed when a parent or other individual alleges that a public agency, such as a child’s public school, has not followed the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Upon receipt of a written state complaint, ISBE is responsible for conducting an investigation and making a decision about the complaint. We anticipate these state complaints could be filed due to many of the issues we are seeing this school year. Issues such as delayed placements, non-implementation of IEP services with failure to notify parents, students not receiving services due to their SpEd teacher or SECA being pulled to cover other classrooms, and other violations of IDEA. We hope you can join us for this important session that may give us another resource for improving special education in CPS and in charter schools and in giving our students the appropriate services they deserve.",
