"description": "Join us to launch the third annual training series of Stand Up! Speak Out!: A training series for resisting the Hostile Environment in Public Services. We will be opening this year’s series on World Social Work Day with an exciting online panel event featuring guest speakers Nottingham East Labour MP Nadia Whittome, independent researcher and campaigner Zoe Gardner, Strategic Engagement Advisor Sabrina Huck and migrants rights activist Sipilien Birani. The panel will share invaluable insight into the existing migration narrative within the current government, why it is so important that we disrupt this narrative and how we can create change through our use of language. Stand Up! Speak Out! is an annual training series of practical webinars to give public sector workers up-to-date knowledge of the rapidly changing immigration policy context and the implications for their work. The series is organised by Ally Swadling at PAFRAS, Naomi Jackson at Social Workers Without Borders and Brian Dikoff at Migrants Organise as part of the Solidarity Knows No Borders community. Over the last two years, we have brought together 38 different specialist organisations and academics to deliver 49 webinars to over 2200 attendees. This year our theme is THE POWER OF WORDS. We want public sector workers (and others) to build their confidence and commitment to using the power of their words in solidarity and for justice; to know when and how to listen and learn from the people they are working with; and when not to share information. Register your interest for this event and sign up to be sent the full schedule when it's published.",
