"description": "Brought to you by Co-Operation Manchester & Seeds For Change We can’t have proper democracy without conflict. We can't go on excluding opinions that we don’t like, treating people as if they’re disposable, this obsession with "being right" and “winning”... it's lazy and it just isn't working. Conflict isn't something to be avoided - it's completely natural, and inevitable in our communities, especially in our context of devastating inequalities and escalating social division. Neither is it something to be rushed or de-prioritised. Negotiating conflict has the potential to make our relationships deeper, stronger and more resilient - or to tear us apart even further, depending how we deal with it. This is the first of four sessions exploring and building skills for how to navigate conflict in our lives and communities, calling upon research and of course much lived experience! In this first session, we'll reflect on our conflict habits (individually and in group cultures), how we can address situations in ways that better match our values, and ultimately develop the communication of real co-operation. There will be a pay-as-you-feel hot meal to cater for a range of diets (please let us know your dietary requirements in the form), a creche managed by DBS-checked supervisors, and hot/cold soft drinks. Please bring cash donations. P.S. We fully recognise the sensitivity of this undertaking, the big emotions involved, and that attendees will have existing unresolved conflicts and history. We will therefore do our best to create an environment which holds this maturely, inclusively, and skillfully. This is not an offer of specific conflict mediation - it is more so an opportunity to together develop our conflict management skills generally. We look forward to having you with us for the journey :) CM & S4C x",
