"description": "Try This Regional Gathering - Mid-Ohio Valley March 17 Judge Black Annex: 319 Market Street, Parkersburg This will be a day-long session for West Virginians of all backgrounds - pastors, parents, professionals, students, teachers, business owners, health professionals, anybody - who are interested in knocking West Virginia off the top of the worst health lists. We'll focus on how to increase access to healthy foods, but we will also cover the wide range of Try This projects (trythiswv.com), talk about how you can qualify for a $3,000 mini-grant, and offer hands-on opportunities to strategize and brainstorm real collaboration. Here are some highlights: Morning highlight: How can we get more people gardening?: Can we create a campaign? How can we help more people raise part of their own food in a healthy way? Increase the number of community gardens? Teach healthy gardening in the schools? Get little kids and senors gardening? Mid-day sessions: Tools and grant opportunities for how to promote physical activity and healthy food in your community! and Community Development Training: Turning Ideas into Action Afternoon highlight: How can we increase the opportunity for growers to sell and families to buy? The Dept of Agriculture has plans for a food hub in the Mid-Ohio area? Your chance for input. What's going on with Farmers Markets? How can small-scale growers get involved? Hear from panels of people who are doing it > break into small groups to brainstorm > compile ideas! Sponsored by Try This WV and the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department. Participating: WVU Extension Service, the WV Department of Agriculture, the WV Food and Farm Coalition, and WV Healthy Bodies Healthy Spirit network",
