We understand that the climate crisis has come about because of systemic issues. At the heart of these issues is the financial system that drives the growth and the greed and the extraction. But what if we were to change the financial system so that it worked to solve the issues instead of driving them? Keval Bharadia, spent many years working in the city and at the stock exchange and understands well how the system works. In this talk, he will give some background on the history of the financial system, how it drives the climate crisis and how the markets work. He will then put forward his proposal for a financial transaction tax that could be implemented and used to transfer wealth back to the global South and to the communities that need them and act to limit a financial system that is out of control. Following the talk there will be a panel and audience discussion on how this might work in practice and how it could be taken forward.",
