"description": "Roundtable on challenging Amazon’s employment practices and surveillance abuses May 4, 2022 at 12 noon eastern For more than a decade, Amazon workers and communities from across the country and around the world have been calling for changes to unsafe working conditions in warehouses and the human rights impacts of its surveillance tech. Now, Amazon’s own shareholders are sounding the alarm at the company’s annual meeting in May. For the first time, a warehouse worker is bringing forward a resolution to end Amazon’s high-tech sweatshop model and stop the injury crisis. Other concerned investors have filed shareholder resolutions challenging the company’s treatment of workers, its tech contracts with the police and militaries, and the company’s contributions to racial inequity more broadly. In total, shareholders will vote on at least a dozen resolutions aimed at protecting workers and communities, and reining in the company’s behavior.   Andy Jassy’s first annual general meeting of shareholders as the company’s CEO will be a referendum on Amazon’s ongoing worker and surveillance abuses. As they vote on each resolution, shareholders will choose whether to cast their votes with Amazon’s Board of Directors or with workers and communities. In the lead up to this historic meeting, hear from the Amazon workers, shareholders and other stakeholders who will be introducing these resolutions. Join the Athena Coalition and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) for a roundtable discussion about the resolutions and learn what you can do to change Amazon this spring.  ",
