"description": "On June 23rd a Black woman was assaulted by Youssef (Joe) Ammouri. Gray Court Councilwoman, Shaterica Neal, stopped in front of Capitol Liquors to feed people in need. As she gave leftover pizza to members of the community, Joe harassed her, repeatedly calling her a “donkey.” When Neal refused to leave, he shouted insults and expletives, including “donkey nigger bitch,” at her. In response to Joe's aggression, Shaterica began filming the incident. Once shared, the community rallied to support Shaterica and called for Joe’s removal. On June 24th members of the community protested Capitol Liquors from 7am to 7pm. During the protest, Joe arrived at the store and proceeded to jeer and taunt protestors with gestures. Joe did not stop with verbal harassment. He used a U-Haul truck to block the view of the store and almost hit a protestor. Even at the time of his arrest, Joe continued to harass protestors. Video being circulated online shows him sticking his middle finger in the direction of the group while being placed into a cop car. Joe's business is located near the Allen-Benedict Court neighborhood, a predominantly Black community which includes two HBCUs and the … Joe's incendiary language was not only an assault on Neal, but also an assault on the humanity, values, and dignity of members of the Black community. Joe touts 25 years of business, but that is hardly due to his customer service. People in this area have no other options. No one should have to suffer abuse because of a lack of alternatives. This is a pattern. During the protest of Capitol Liquors, members of the Allen-Benedict Court community joined in because they too experienced harassment from Joe. One man said even his grandmother- a paying customer- had been verbally harassed in the store. We can not allow Joe to continue doing business in the Black community. If you won’t respect us, you can not have our dollars. Add your name to demand Justice for Shaterica: Conviction Revocation of the business's liquor license Reclamation of the space for community use A reliable, affordable food source",
