	"description": "The upper administration of Auburn University has repeatedly insisted that only a small minority of people is dissatisfied with the actions of the Board of Trustees on June 5, 2026. As evidence, they have pointed to the President and Provost receiving only sixty-two emails from individuals on the day before and in the immediate aftermath of the Board’s June meeting. Though faculty have called for a means to express their disapproval collectively, in the absence of the University Senate, there has been no mechanism to allow this. Our declaration of concern finally gives the means for members of the Auburn Family to come together to speak clearly and unambiguously: we do not stand for this. &amp;nbsp; On June 5, 2026, while most of the Auburn Family was away from campus, the Board of Trustees passed two policies: the &quot;Board Policy on Academic Curriculum, Courses, Syllabi, and Core Educational Requirements&quot; and the &quot;Board Policy on Presidential Academic Advisory Council.&quot; These policies made significant changes to how Auburn is governed with just 24 hours&#x27; notice and little explanation to the Auburn community. The first policy asserted authority over Auburn’s curriculum and mandated two new Core Curriculum courses without going through the usual academic process of review by faculty and subject-matter experts. This undermines the expertise of Auburn faculty and establishes a dangerous precedent: political appointees can mandate courses and course content for students suddenly and without consulting educators. The second policy dissolved Auburn’s University Senate and replaced it with a Presidential Academic Advisory Council. More than half of the new council will be appointed rather than elected by faculty, eliminating overnight the decades-old body which has had elected representatives to speak in an advisory capacity on major decisions that affect the university. We, the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members–the Auburn Family that make this university run–do not stand for this. We believe in shared governance. We believe in faculty expertise driving decisions about curriculum. We stand for a university that supports these basic principles. We stand for Auburn.",
