"description": "LOCATION: Anywhere in Australia Democracy in Colour is a national racial and economic justice organisation led by people of colour. We run campaigns that tackle structural racism, empower people of colour to shape policy discussions that affect our lives and build the capacity in our communities. Are you someone who is ... Deeply passion for racial justice and a world where the inherent worth and dignity of everyone is recognised Curious to identify root causes, and goes beyond treating symptoms Independent and self-starting - with a resilient, solutions focussed approach and an open mind Highly emotionally intelligence and self-awareness - aware of your strengths and weaknesses and your impact on others Can take and give feedback well - always tells the truth about performance Humble with a low ego - puts the impact of the movement first in everything you do Committed to diversity, equity and anti-oppression Why should you join us? We are dedicated to societal transformation, not just short-term policy change. That means supporting you. By building more leaders like you we fill core gaps in the racial justice space - more anti-racism campaigning, more people of colour led advocacy, and more work that explicitly and unapologetically seeks to build the political power of people of colour. You will: Be trained in Organising and Campaigning by social movement leaders through our ongoing training and development program Receive mentoring by leading campaigners of colour: matched to your skills and needs Become effective social change leaders Learn to leverage power, shift narratives and organise communities to build a society where we honour the dignity and humanity of all people, where justice is real. Build a best-in-class digital and grassroots organising platform that empowers people of colour to win the big fights that matter to them. Break ground in building the next-big-thing in online and grassroots organising. Reshape the way advocacy campaigns engage communities of colour - less victim narratives and saviour complexes, and more agency and leadership from affected communities. I've got some experience... We're looking to complete our National Leadership Team & State Coordinators for specific roles. If any of the following suits you please indicate it in the form. Campaigns Director Digital Campaigner Organising Co-Director Western Australia Co-Director Victorian Co-Director Northern Territory Co-Director Australian Capital Territory Co-Director Rapid Response Campaigner Digital Co-Director Social Media Officer Graphic Designer Videographer Web Developer Data Analyst I'm new to volunteering... Don't have much experience or don't know where you fit in but are keen to get involved? Don't worry! We'll find something for you. What we’ve achieved already We’re growing our national movement of people of colour with over 7000 supporters online and 20 incredible campaigners of colour who are volunteering in ongoing roles. Ran powerful Victorian and Federal election campaigns mobilising 300 people to make over 8000 phone calls and, knock on over 600 doors in key marginal seats. Launched Australia’s first five month campaigning fellowship specifically designed for young Muslims in partnership with the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV), this training program equipped a cohort of young Muslim leaders with all the basics they’d need to know to be effective changemakers Created the People of Colour Placement Program by creating dedicated paid roles in advocacy organisations for emerging campaigners of colour.. We filled a clear gap in the marriage equality campaign crowdfunding for and leading a campaign to turn out thousands of YES voters in communities of colour Ran a campaign with RISE to highlight the structural power imbalances in the refugee advocacy space. The campaign resulted in more speakers with lived experience on the program for the Palm Sunday March - one of Australia’s largest refugee rallies. See here and here for coverage on the campaign. We know that sometimes the best people for the role may not fit the exact selection criteria but we encourage you to apply. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than passion, initiative and a deep motivation for racial justice",
