"description": "FUND THE LIBRARY! FUND ACADEMICS! Dear Sacramento State Campus President Dr. Luke Wood and Provost Dr. Erika Cameron, We, the undersigned faculty, staff, students, and concerned community members, demand that Sacramento State prioritize funding for our core mission of teaching & learning and restore the University Library budget. As a result of budget cuts imposed by campus administration, the University Library does not have the funding to maintain access to critical resources. The impact currently amounts to $472,953 of cuts to databases, periodicals, and other resources, which will significantly impact research, creative activity, teaching, & learning across all seven colleges, in addition to cutting back Library open hours. These continued cuts are not sustainable. The University Library is central to our academic mission as a campus. This cut will harm our faculty, students, and staff - as well as the greater Sacramento community. Further, this potentially impacts our ability to fully engage as an R2 research-designated university. Students rely on Library resources to complete assignments, Library spaces to study in, and librarian expertise to help explore their research interests. The Library also provides valuable student employment and career training. Faculty are having to redesign classes that rely on library subscription materials and rethink research plans. We ask that Sacramento State campus administration: 1. Restore the University Library’s materials and operations budget in Spring 2026, without cuts to other Colleges. 2. Continue to prioritize funding for Academic Affairs 3. Foster transparency on budgeting issues within Academic Affairs, through frequent, clear communication to all constituents. The University is not an enterprise, and investment in our students should focus on the quality of their education. Many of us have experienced what a robust Library collection looks like: it is a fundamental stepping stone for all of our learning and inquiry. Let’s commit to funding collections and resources that serve the campus community!",
