"description": "*This form is open to all DSA members, chapters, and national commissions to co-sign our proposal. The NPC has not voted yet, but we will continue to receive co-signatures and statements as we wait* The DSA Disability Working Group (DWG) has taken action regarding the recent NPC decision to hold an in-person only DSA Convention in 2023. Our first step was to submit our Proposal for a Hybrid DSA Convention to NPC, and this proposal would have been introduced at the 7/15 NPC Steering Committee (SC) meeting. But the discussion about having a hybrid format for convention was pushed to the next NPC meeting on 7/29 and along with it, our proposal. The original deadline our liaison gave us for national commission and local chapter cosigners was based on the original plan, but now, because it has been put on the agenda for a later meeting, we can extend sign on and statement submissions! However, we also learned that instead of an NPC Steering Committee vote, our proposal will be voted on by the full NPC following the 7/29 NPC SC meeting and discussion. We received information that DWG's proposal will likely not pass a full vote of the NPC. Considering this, DWG is asking for an outpouring of support for making the DSA 2023 Convention hybrid, and thereby accessible to the greatest diversity of members. Accessibility benefits everyone, and the highest decision making body of our organization should be accessible to all of our members. Delegate representation and responsibilities should not be limited to those members privileged and abled enough to travel- delegating should be open to all members, and a hybrid format would make this possible! We hope to see an outpouring of support for this, and are glad to be able to extend sign on and statements of support for more of our comrades to join us in demanding accessibility in DSA, starting with a hybrid convention in 2023. Email disability@dsacommittees.org with any questions. Share this form with comrades! *This form is open to all DSA members, chapters, and national commissions to co-sign our proposal.
