"description": "Empty Seat at the Table: Moms Missing On Mother's Day On April 16, 10,000 moms went live. On April 18, hundreds drove to the Dilley Detention Center to protest. Two actions. Same demands: Shut down Dilley. Close the camps. Bring our kids and families home by Mother’s Day. And we are not done. Sign up to get your toolkit! Right now, mothers and children are being held inside Dilley after being taken from their homes and stripped of their dignity. Families inside are reporting undrinkable water, rotten food, and children sinking into depression behind locked doors. Kids who should be in school are instead living in conditions no child should ever experience. They are being held far beyond what is legal. Under the law, children should not be detained longer than 20 days, but too many have been held for weeks, even months. Some for over 100 days. 100 days is a lifetime for a toddler. And across this country, 11,000 children have lost a parent to detention. This is inhumane. And moms are not going to stand by and watch it happen. Because we see ourselves in these moms. We see the sacrifices they’ve made, the same ones we would make if it meant giving our children a better life. We know the truth: we would cross rivers, valleys, mountains, deserts, whatever it takes to protect our kids. That’s not a crime. That’s being a mom. In the last two weeks we got their attention and we’re not stopping now. We want our demands met. So moms across the country are taking action again. From now until Mother’s Day, we’re showing up in a way that cannot be ignored. We’re writing letters to the moms being held in detention. We’re saying their names. We’re telling them they are seen, they are not forgotten, and that there are moms out here fighting for them. We’re lighting a candle and keeping it on until they are home. We’re setting an empty place at the table for the mothers who are missing this Mother’s Day. And we’re sharing it. The world should have to see what’s being taken from our families. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real. If you’ve been watching this and wondering what you can do: this is it. Join us. Write the letter. Take your seat at the table and make it impossible to ignore the ones who are missing.",
