Voting every four years is not the only part of the democratic process. Indeed many of our members have no ability to vote, being too young; and have no say on the security of their own future. Decisions are made by much older people - leaders across the world are mostly over 50 years - they have less skin in the game; less of their time on earth will be affected. Other things play a role in the democratic process, such as visiting local councillor, writing to MP, attending local meetings, going on demonstrations and occasional civil disobedience. We have protected rights to protest. It is an acknowledged part of our democratic system. Young people now need to take charge of their future in a way that their previous generation has failed to do, by failing to secure a safe climate for their children, although the science has been clear for 30 years.   We can’t hide the truth from children and youth any longer, it is immoral to do so. Adults must face up to what they’re leaving the next generation and be open about it with the young.   Adults must facilitate the demands of the young to not be left with a polluted and unsafe planet and stand with them.
