	"description": "Odeon cinema in Beckenham is one of the most important cultural landmarks and institutions in our constituency. The site has been showing films since 1930, and currently runs showings for children and many community groups alongside showcasing world-class films seven days a week. This week it was announced that the Odeon would be closing in November after City Gate Church, who bought the freehold for the cinema earlier this year and have another site across the road, have served notice. Hundreds of people have been in touch with me about this. It would mean inevitable job losses and spell the end for Beckenham’s most iconic venue. City Gate are running their own consultation on this change on October 10th, and have launched their own survey – which is a private survey. As the MP for Beckenham and Penge, I have requested meetings with both City Gate Church and Odeon next week. Ahead of those meetings I want to know your thoughts, and be able to represent the strength of local feeling about this proposed change.
