	"description": "The Federal Communications Commission is considering major changes to E-Rate, the program that helps schools and libraries afford high-speed internet and the network infrastructure needed to use it. The FCC is asking whether the 30-year-old program should be limited or even sunset, along with proposals that could reduce discounts, phase out funding for some communities, or restrict which schools and libraries remain eligible. Comments are due October 13. E-Rate provides discounts ranging from 20% to 90%, with greater assistance directed toward schools and libraries with greater need. Schools depend on that support for broadband connections, Wi-Fi networks, routers, switches, and other infrastructure. Schools use their internet connections for far more than putting students in front of screens. Networks power attendance systems, school transportation, required testing, family communication, instructional resources, and daily operations. In rural and remote communities, broadband can also connect students to courses and services unavailable locally. Because the FCC&#x27;s filing process creates significant barriers for individual comment submissions, Public School Strong will submit one statement to the FCC, accompanied by the names of everyone who signs. Add your name and join us in demanding that the FCC preserve and protect E-Rate. Statement to the Federal Communications Commission: We, the undersigned parents, educators, students, and public school supporters, urge the Federal Communications Commission to protect the E-Rate program and reject proposals that would limit, weaken, or sunset this critical support for schools and libraries. E-Rate has helped schools across the country afford the broadband and network infrastructure they need every day. Cutting discounts, restricting eligibility, or phasing out support would push higher internet costs onto already strained school budgets and disproportionately harm communities with the fewest resources. Concerns about student screen time should not be used as an excuse to undermine basic school infrastructure, which powers attendance systems, school transportation, required testing, family communication, instructional resources, and daily operations. We urge the FCC to preserve E-Rate as a strong, nationwide program, maintain need-based support, and ensure that every public school and library can remain affordably connected.",
