"description": "Kroger recently announced plans to close four stores where UFCW Local 400 union members work, along with dozens of others around the country. These closures would devastate our communities and we must stand together to stop it! Join us for one of our upcoming rallies outside each of the locations and tell Kroger: keep our stores open! RALLY SCHEDULE: Abingdon, VA 📅 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15 📍 Kroger #255, 466 South Cummings Street, Abingdon, VA 24210 Kingsport, TN 📅 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15 📍 Kroger #328, 1664 East Stone Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660 Charlottesville, VA 📅 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 16 📍 Kroger #239, 1904 Emmett Street, Charlottesville, VA 22901 Gassaway, WV 📅 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 16 📍 Kroger #739, 2908 State St, Gassaway, WV 26624 We’ll be joined by Kroger union workers, customers, community leaders, and elected officials all united to call on Kroger to keep our stores open! Our communities rely on Kroger to provide fresh groceries and good union jobs. If these stores close, our customers will have fewer choices of where to shop and what to buy. Our members will be forced to transfer to other stores or risk losing their livelihoods. And our communities will be left with fewer good, union job opportunities. This is all part of a corporate plan to shut down stores across the country in order to provide Wall Street investors with – in Kroger’s words – a “modest financial benefit.” They’re abandoning our communities just so shareholders can make an extra buck. After investing billions of dollars in buying its own stock to inflate its share price, and paying millions in legal fees for a doomed merger with Albertsons, plus millions more in compensation for corporate executives, Kroger is forcing hard-working store associates and the customers who depend on us to pay the price for their decisions. As the union of Kroger workers, we won’t take this sitting down. RSVP to join us at a rally near you!",
