"description": "We want to document the current impact of extreme heat events in our neighbourhood to demonstrate the need for better protections. As a renter in Oak Bay, you can help by documenting the indoor temperature in your sleeping area on hot days this summer. All you have to do is fill out this form when you are feeling the record heat! With extreme heat events on the rise, we are advocating for Oak Bay to adopt a Right to Cool bylaw mandating that landlords must ensure that at least one room in every rental unit can be kept at or below 26°C. We are also working to ensure it is crafted and implemented to reduce the risk of potential unintended adverse consequences, such as renovictions, rent increases, increased greenhouse gas emissions, higher utility bills and higher risk of power outages during heat events. We know that Oak Bay is highly vulnerable to extreme heat events based on both demographic factors and the buildings in our area, as documented ton the CRD Regional Heat Map. This vulnerability is concentrated around Oak Bay Village, Fort and Foul Bay, and along Beach Drive near Spewhung/Turkey Head, all areas with concentrations of rental buildings.",
