"description": "Cockney’s Pie & Mash, 314 Portobello Road, W10 5RU, has said it is at risk of closing following a proposed doubling of its annual rent. Run by Ruth Phillips, Cockney’s is a long-standing, family business that has operated here for more than three decades. It is one of only a handful of pie and mash shops still alive in West London, but even when pie and mash shops were a staple of West London, Cockney’s was head and shoulders above the rest. The leasing agent is acting as an opaque intermediary, refusing to even tell Ruth who the landlord is, and it remains to be seen whether the landlord is aware of the agent's behaviour. We are asking the agent to reconsider this unreasonable rent hike and, if the landlord is not yet aware, we hope this campaign will make them aware, so that they might ensure Cockney's can remain. Whether I'm fighting to stop 24/7 casinos, to close souvenir & tat shops, or to save our precious Cockney's. Our high streets are worth fighting for, and if we don't fight for them, they won't serve us.",
