"description": "What is Wage Theft- Wage theft happens if an employer doesn’t fully pay an employee for their labor. Stolen labor takes many forms, such as paying less than the minimum wage, failing to pay overtime, requiring off-the-clock work, taking illegal deductions, Employee misclassification, or not being paid at all. Everyone should be paid fairly and in a timely manner for their labor. Unfortunately, for hundreds of thousands of Colorado workers — a disproportionate number of women and workers of color who work in construction and the trades —employers illegally withhold their pay. What is the solution- We must ensure that workers have effective recourse when their wages are stolen. A wage theft ordinance would create an additional, more accessible mechanism for workers to recover their stolen wages and significantly impact workers’ ability to provide for their families. Expanding workers' rights is essential to improving our workers' lives while creating an economy that works for all. If you have been or know someone was impacted by wage theft, they are invited to share their story.",
