"description": "Late last week, the Supreme Court gave Republicans what they have wanted for years: a green light to redraw maps, weaken voting rights protections, and wipe Democratic seats off the board across the South. Trump is celebrating because he thinks the Court handed his party a permanent advantage. But he may have badly miscalculated. An analysis by Fair Fight Action, the leading nationwide voting and civil rights organization, shows Democrats can create as many as 22 new blue U.S. House seats across seven blue and swing states by 2028. That’s right, if party leaders, governors, and state legislators stop hesitating and redistrict aggressively in New York, Colorado, Maryland, Oregon, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. They can fully neutralize the GOP’s projected 19-seat gain across the South. Republicans are already moving at record pace. They are targeting Black representation, Democratic voters, and the congressional districts that still give working people a voice in states like Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina. If Democrats treat this like a normal policy disagreement, Republicans will use the Court’s ruling to lock in minority rule for years. This doesn’t have to be the only way Democrats fight back. Democratic must use every tool they have to defend democracy, especially protecting the voting power of underserved communities. That means passing a new Voting Rights Act, creating national standards for non-partisan redistricting after the next census, and many other reforms that will protect our democracy -- but none of that is possible if Republicans redistrict Democrats out of power for the next several decades. Tell the DNC, House Democratic leaders, governors, and elected officials in target states to redistrict now, fight back against the GOP’s power grab, and use every legal tool available to create new Democratic House seats before Republicans lock in control.",
