"description": "This September we are organizing a week of action targeting the Big Tech companies that are puppeteering a massive AI data center buildout. These data centers are raising our energy bills, depleting our water supplies, polluting our communities, and creating a massive demand for fossil fuels. We’re going to confront these corporations head on and demand our political leaders take a stand. Join us in NYC from September 19 to 24 to take on Big Tech. Our goal is to make it crystal clear that Big Tech is a climate villain while advancing strategic campaigns to slow the development of AI data centers and erode Big Tech's political and economic power. Schedule of Events: Art Build: Help us make this week of action beautiful! We’ll need to produce signs and banners that convey our message to the public and key decision makers. Join us to help create movement art for the Unplug AI week of actions! Saturday 9/19 12:00 - 6:00pm Many Hands Art Space (Address provided upon RSVP) Birddog Training: The streets of New York will be crawling with elected officials and corporate executives during Climate Week (9/20-9/25). Join our birddog training to learn how to confront these power brokers and demand a safe and affordable future. Sunday 9/20 3:00 - 5:00pm Many Hands Workspace (Address provided upon RSVP) OpenAI Action: Big Tech wants to use AI to replace the working class and make themselves rich. To do this they need to build data centers across the country that raise our utility bills, pollute our communities, and worsen the climate crisis. People see clear as day that Big Tech’s vision for the future means our communities are destroyed, the working class is broke, and our planet is cooked. Our government has the power to protect us from Big Tech by passing data center moratoriums and regulating AI. That’s why ChatGPT executive Greg Brockman invested $25 million into Trump's super PAC earlier this year, making him Trump's top donor. Join us to rally against OpenAI’s massive data center buildout, their support for authoritarian leaders, and to demand our elected officials protect our communities and our future. Monday 9/21 5:00pm Open AI Offices 295 Lafayette St, Manhattan Amazon Presser and Rally: Once known for popularizing the Climate Pledge, Amazon is now investing in a massive fracked gas plant that would become the largest single source of climate pollution in the country. Join Bill McKibben, former tech worker Holly Alpine, Amazon Employees for Climate Justice worker Kavita Sthanumurthy, and Frontline Data Center Fighters to hear about the role Amazon is playing in the massive buildout of fossil-fueled AI data centers. Tuesday 9/22 11:30am Amazon Web Service Building (AmazonJFK27) 12 W 39th St, Manhattan Hey Google: Protect Kids' Futures: No more unregulated AI! AI is eliminating jobs, spreading disinformation, and accelerating irreversible climate change. The massive data centers that power AI consume vast amounts of energy, mostly generated by fossil fuels that cause the climate crisis. AI is not inevitable. We don’t have to wait passively while the tech oligarchs race to consolidate political and economic power in their own hands. We can pause this technology while we evaluate how to use it for good, not evil. Join us for a family-friendly action outside Google's Chelsea offices to support a moratorium on data center construction and on AI use in schools. Wednesday 9/23 4:30pm Google Offices (111 8th Ave, Manhattan) Gowanus Fracked Gas Plant Action: The data center boom is driving demand for fossil fuels. Fracked gas plants that should have been shut down years ago are still online. Even worse, the ones that have been shut down are trying to come back. This is the case with the Gowanus fracked gas plant. Join community leaders to demand the Gowanus fracked gas plant stays closed and is never used to power AI data centers. Thursday 9/24 6:00pm Gowanus Fracked Gas Plant (29th St & 2nd Ave, Brooklyn Sponsors: This week of action is sponsored by: Public Citizen, Stand.Earth, Third Act, Third Act NYC, Third Act New Jersey, Climate First! Inc., 350Brooklyn, NY Renews, Third Act Union, LittleSis, 350 Network Council, 350 Wisconsin, Climate Critical, Seeding Sovereignty, EQAT, Greenpeace USA, 350Vermont, 350 New Hampshire, Center for Organizing, Food & Water Watch, Sunrise NYC, Planet Over Profit, Climate Families NYC, Rise and Resist, Stop the Money Pipeline, and Communities United For Action.",
