"description": "We are asking for your support on behalf of our brothers and sisters at AFM Local 80 and IATSE Local 140 who are experiencing a full work stoppage in response to the spread of COVID-19. The cancellation of both private and public events has affected the musicians and stage crews that work in Chattanooga’s local cultural institutions like the Tivoli, the Signal, Walker Theatre and more. This means a majority of these Chattanooga workers will be without income for as long as social distancing is needed to prevent further spread of the virus. What will the money be used for? With no clear idea of the length of this work stoppage, there is a huge need to provide relief to these workers and their families. With your contributions, CALC will provide pre-paid grocery gift cards so that impacted workers can focus on securing rent, utilities and other financial necessities. On a weekly basis, funds raised will be used to purchase grocery gift cards. These cards will be directly distributed to IATSE 140 and AFM 80 members. From AFM 80 President, Taylor Brown: “In the course of 72 hours, professional musicians and other workers in the arts and entertainment industry, suddenly lost around 3-4 weeks of work due to the restrictions and closures placed on performance venues and events. For the majority of us, this means loss of income with few options to supplement. Typically, the Spring performance season is the most lucrative part of the year, a time during which musicians work extremely hard to earn enough income for current bills while also saving up for the typical Summer lull, when work is more scarce. The next few months are uncertain for everyone, however, the effects of this situation could impact musicians long after the restrictions on events are lifted. Our Ask: Unprecedented crises require us to broaden our sense of solidarity and mutual aid. If we all pitch in where we can, then everyone will have what they need. Whether you can donate 5 dollars or 500 dollars, you will be helping provide food security for the Chattanooga workers affected.",
