"description": "The Trump administration and the state of Florida are illegally building an immigrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades, just 1,100 feet from a traditional Miccosukee and Seminole village and within three miles of 11 Miccosukee and Seminole villages. This is being done without Tribal consultation, in violation of Tribal sovereignty and laws that protect Mother Earth and human rights. The Department of Homeland Security has said that the facility is being paid for with FEMA funds, but the total cost has already ballooned to more than $608 million -- more than $150 million beyond the original estimate. Plus, the funds DHS claims to be using have already been allocated elsewhere, both through congressional appropriations and through Treasury allocation. The entire project is being cashflowed by the State’s emergency management funds in the middle of hurricane season. The costs to the state, the federal government, to Tribal sovereignty, Mother Earth, our immigrant relatives, and human rights will only continue to mount. We need the entire Florida congressional delegation and state legislators to speak out forcefully now. Send a message to your U.S. & State Senators and Representatives urging them to demand answers from the State and Federal administrations and shut down Alligator Alcatraz now.",
