	"description": "In Hutchins, Texas residents just successfully blocked the conversion of a 1-million-square-foot warehouse into an ICE detention center that would have held more than 9,000 detainees in a town of 8,000 people. A town so small, it doesn’t even have a grocery store yet. People stood up, fought back, and won. And they aren’t alone. Pressure campaigns against warehouse owners have also been successful in Virginia and Oklahoma. In fact, after Oklahoma’s Republican Senator Roger Wicker said he heard from many of his constituents raising concerns about the public safety, medical capacity and economic impact of the proposed facility, he joined the opposition. The Department of Homeland Security is armed with $45 billion to take over up to 23 facilities across the country to detain up to 80,000 more people. As of today, DHS has already purchased warehouses in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas. These communities are still exploring legal tactics to stop these facilities from opening.
