"description": "Thanks to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s leadership and to our union and coalition partners’ efforts, we got city council to pass a $1 billion TIF surplus to invest in our schools, parks and libraries, to protect youth jobs and mental health care expansion. As Mayor Brandon Johnson led the 2026 City of Chicago budget fight, some alderpersons stuck to their principles, the values we share—fighting to raise revenue from wealthy corporations instead of nickel-and-dime-ing working Chicagoans. Other alders took the side of Chicago’s billionaires and corporate donors and voted against making Chicago’s wealthiest corporations pitch in just a little bit more to fund investments in our communities. Take this moment to thank our mayor for his leadership and to thank your alderperson if they stood with Black and brown communities and with all of working class Chicago. And if your alderperson went with the corporate backers and billionaires, let them know you’ll remember their choice when it’s time for you to choose.",
