	"description": "David Sell is a living example of the power of rehabilitation and personal transformation. At 20 years old, he was involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of one person and injured a second person. Not a day goes by where he does not regret his participation in the crime or think about the pain the victim’s family has experienced. The best way that Mr. Sell has found to honor the victim is to be the positive role model and mentor that he so badly needed as a young person, and to empower young people to make different decisions than he did. Mr. Sell is now a father of four and a grandfather of 11 with a loving and devoted wife and parents in their 80s. Mr. Sell has served 28 years in prison, and won’t see the parole board until 2036. At 49, if David were released today, the likelihood that he would return to prison once released is extremely low. This likelihood is even further reduced by David’s incredibly strong family and community bonds, factors known to reduce recidivism. David is an active member of the Hospice Program where he provides end of life support to people living out their final days behind bars. In the last 28 years, David has only received two disciplinary infractions, neither of which were violent, an incredible accomplishment in the prison environment. Two years ago, David co-founded a non-profit organization called Change Comes From Within, whose mission is to end youth gun violence. From behind the prison walls, David has organized eight events that have mobilized Buffalo community leaders and local residents to take action, while also providing much-needed resources to the community through backpack and school supply giveaways.",
