"description": "Body: Every day across our state parents trust us to teach and care for Florida’s children. We earned this trust because we know that regardless of race, background or ZIP code, every child should get the education they deserve: An education that imparts honesty, integrity, independent critical thinking based on facts and the courage to do what is right. As educators, we are held to a code of ethics that requires us to be impartial and uphold the truth, and we take these ethics seriously. I wrote a letter for the Action Network letter campaign: Contact the State Board of Education NOW! That is why when some people in power say that someone must “police them on a daily basis” we know they are trying to put politics ahead of the needs of students, public schools and our profession. On June 10, the Florida State Board of Education (SBOE) will take up a new rule that implies educators “indoctrinate” students and fail to teach using facts. It implies that as educators we are biased in our teaching and suppress student thought. This is a complete undermining of the work we do and is yet another attempt to divide us. The truth is, educators are amazing and while some non-educators are stoking fears about our schools and spreading lies about our lessons, we must stand strong. The SBOE will be considering this unnecessary and offensive rule which will further dictate how we teach and the curriculum that we use. We need to stand up for our students and tell the SBOE to VOTE NO on these rules. Tell them our children must have the tools and guidance to honestly face and understand our past and present in order to create a better future.",
