This is a rare thing to ask of regulators, but this is an exceptional situation. At a time when so many New Yorkers are struggling to pay their bills, NYSEG & RG&E are asking for rate increases as high as 35% - even while they are in the midst of being investigated for a widespread billing fiasco, so bad one customer was overbilled by $67,655. This level of error-prone management extends to NYSEG & RG&E's request filings for double digit rate increases that will be paid by ordinary New Yorkers. These filings are so riddled with errors, unjustified capital expenditures, and lacking basic info that they cannot be accepted. NYSEG & RG&E are both subsidiaries of Avangrid, a multibillion dollar corporation. If they can’t even be bothered to provide the fiscal information required by law, our State regulators should not entertain their exorbitant request. If the PSC regulators don't dismiss this filling, it will signal to utilities across New York State that evading public accountability is acceptable, and New Yorkers will pay the cost Our motion is the start, but to move it forward, we must make sure that ordinary New Yorkers like us–the ones who will actually have to pay this unjustified cost–make ourselves impossible to ignore.
