"description": "A dangerous bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate: the deceptively named Food Security and Farm Protection Act. This bill is nearly identical to last Congress’s Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act — a harmful piece of legislation designed to strip states like California of the right to ban the cruelest factory farming practices. Despite claims from industrial agriculture lobbyists, this bill has nothing to do with protecting food security. Its real goal is to roll back vital animal welfare, food safety, and environmental protections — including California’s historic Proposition 12, which was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. If passed, this bill could nullify California’s bans on: Gestation crates for mother pigs Battery cages for egg-laying hens Veal crates for calves And even our hard-fought ban on the sale of foie gras, a product made by force-feeding birds until their livers become diseased and enlarged These laws reflect the values of Californians who believe animals should not suffer for profit — and who have voted time and again to support stronger protections. California should not be forced to accept the inhumane standards of other states. This bill is a direct attack on our right to reject animal cruelty and make choices that reflect our values. Tell your federal lawmakers: Do not let factory farm lobbyists erase California’s progress. Oppose the Food Security and Farm Protection Act.",
