	"description": "Tell your state legislators to support HB 719, a bipartisan bill that would protect elected seats on the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) Board. This legislation is needed because the Republican leadership in the state house and senate inserted a last minute provision in the state budget last June, stripping Board seats away from elected STRS members and giving the Board majority to partisan political appointees. This was inserted into the state budget in the middle of the night, hours before the final vote, without any testimony or a chance to push back on this overreach. These changes to the STRS Board are currently being litigated, but passing HB 719 will ensure that educators retain their elected STRS Board seats regardless of the outcome of that court case. No changes were made to Ohio’s other four public pension systems. However, we know that if the legislature gets away with taking over the STRS Board, they won’t stop there. Next they’ll go after the School Employees Retirement System (SERS), the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS), and Ohio’s other public employee pension systems.",
