"description": "Last year, state lawmakers introduced more than 500 bills targeting Two Spirit and LGBTQ (2SLGBTQ) people across the United States. We urgently need federal protections like those laid out in the Equality Act, which would give 2SLGBTQ people the same protections from discrimination as other protected groups under federal law. The bill would amend current civil rights law to include sexual orientation and gender identity as “protected characteristics,” prohibiting discrimination and harassment on the basis of those characteristics (in addition to race, color, national origin, sex, disability, and religion). If passed, the Equality Act would provide explicit anti-discrimination protections for 2SLGBTQ people in employment, housing, jury service, federally funded programs, credit, education, and public spaces and services -- and the legislation updates the definition of “public spaces and services” to include retail stores, restaurants, transportation services, banks, legal services, and more. Click “START WRITING” to send a message to your Senators and Representative, urging them to vote YES on the Equality Act now.",
