	"description": "More than one million Tribal citizens participate in SNAP. But last year’s Big Brutal Bill contained the largest cut to SNAP benefits in the program’s history. It additionally shifted costs and penalties to states that are expected to total more than $9 billion. According to a recent survey, 16% of states will either be forced to withdraw from SNAP altogether or pause SNAP operations due to administrative cost shifts and penalties. The Senate is currently debating their version of the Farm Bill, which includes some protections for Tribal-led conservation and food distribution, but does not go far enough. The current versions of the Farm Bill – one passed by the House and the other being debated in the Senate – fail to protect states from penalties and cost-sharing requirements. Nutrition is a treaty right -- and Native communities are already suffering from the chronic under funding of all social services for our communities.
