	"description": "On October 8, 2021, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it intends to cancel some border wall contracts in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of Texas. This news is a testament to the power of our community to stop harmful border policies! However, the fight is not over and many questions remain. President Biden is still currently building 13 miles of border walls in the RGV and there are no signs he intends to stop. The DHS announcement did not include a timeline for canceling contracts and left open the possibility that new contracts could be issued and new walls built in the future. Join us in taking action to show the administration they must deliver on President Biden’s commitment not to build another foot of border wall. Voces Unidas and the RGV No Border Wall Coalition have joined a network of organizations, Indigenous tribes, and community groups across the border that has sent Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland a letter urging them to stop border wall construction in the RGV. Among other demands, we ask for the administration to consult with our communities and provide real opportunities for us to shape efforts within these agencies to remediate the harm that border walls have already caused.
