"description": "More Perfect Union recently traveled to Box Elder County, Utah where county commissioners approved the largest data center in the world -- 40,000 acres -- being built by Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary. Residents are concerned that the data center could drain water from the Great Salt Lake, which is already suffering from declining water levels. One resident we spoke with said: “The biggest concerns really are about water usage, broad environmental impacts, and then the fact that the state is basically giving an out of country developer a 92% tax break…we're subsidizing corporate profits with public resources and I'm just not okay with it.” The local outrage was felt all the way in the governor's mansion where Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has stopped the previously-approved project, requiring new approvals for each phase of the project, and requiring the state’s Department of Natural Resources to ensure Utah’s water is protected. Like in Utah where O’Leary is reportedly getting a 92% tax break, data centers often pay $0 in property taxes, taking millions of dollars out of local economies, including public schools. Their massive use of water and electricity is driving up local utility rates too. Let’s use our national reach to support small rural communities being taken over by AI data centers. Watch our new report above, then send a message to Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary and demand he pull the plug on his proposed Utah data center -- the largest in the world.",
