	"description": "On December 21st, 2021 the Long Beach City Council voted to opt-out of retail cannabis sales and on-site consumption establishments. Since then, a group of residents have been organizing to persuade the City Council to reverse their opt-out and allow retail dispensaries and on-site consumption sites. If the city opts-in to retail dispensaries and consumption sites, there would be a local 3% tax on each sale that would go directly to the city. Statewide, local governments are projected to receive $75 million in revenue from these taxes. Meanwhile, the City of Long Beach is facing a fiscal crisis and is actively looking at potential sources of revenue, including the unpopular options of installing parking meters, and dramatically increasing the price of beach passes. Long Beach cannot afford to turn down the revenue that would be created by allowing cannabis sales, and the City Council&#x27;s proposals of raising the price of beach passes and installing parking meters would create a disproportionate harm to residents, particularly those of lower income. Sign our petition today to tell the Long Beach City Council to opt-in to recreational cannabis dispensaries and sales, and save our city from financial ruin!",
