"description": "Receiving gender-affirming care (like puberty blockers) can reduce the risk of suicide by over 70% among trans and Two-Spirit young people. But last week, the Supreme Court upheld a state-level ban on gender-affirming care for minors in Tennessee, making it harder to fight back against similar restrictions in 26 other states. And this week, the Senate may vote on the budget bill that would cut access to life-saving gender-affirming healthcare. Now Trump is shutting down the national suicide hotline for LGBTQ+ people. All of these actions could kill people -- particularly Native youth, who are the most likely among LGBTQ+ youth to be bullied and to consider or attempt suicide. We must urgently show up for our Two-Spirit relatives. Protecting Two-Spirit people is about human rights and the sacredness of all life -- and it's also a way to re-Indigenize our society. Earlier this Pride Month, Native Organizers Alliance Action Fund co-sponsored a bipartisan congressional briefing with the Two-Spirit & Native LGBTQ+ Center for Equity. A panel of Two-Spirit leaders and Tribal partners offered policy updates on key issues impacting Two-Spirit people and shared best practices for how Congress can serve as a stronger ally and partner. Their requests for Congress included: Protect Two-Spirit people’s access to healthcare, including voting against life-threatening cuts to gender-affirming care, protecting Indian Health Service funding, and supporting expanded access to PrEP (which prevents HIV). Work with Tribes to write pro-LGBTQ+ legislation that is inclusive of everyone. Respect Tribal sovereignty at every level of government. Will you show up for our Two-Spirit relatives by lifting up their urgent requests in a quick message to your members of Congress today? Click “START WRITING” to send a message to your Senators and your Representative: Vote to protect Two-Spirit people’s access to healthcare and work with Tribes to write LGBTQ+ legislation that is inclusive of Two-Spirit relatives.",
