"description": "SB-2135, which creates a commission to study our initiated measure and referral process, has been referred to a conference committee where some committee members are attempting to silence labor’s voice by having the labor appointee removed from the study commission. The Senate version of SB-2135 rightfully gave working people a seat at the table on the initiated and referred measure study commission, while the House version of SB-2135 does not. Representatives Ben Koppelman (R, District 16) and Chris Olson (R, District 13) claim that labor should not have a seat on the commission because we are too bias, but the Chamber of Commerce should have a position, claiming that they are neutral. If the organization that represents North Dakota business leaders gets a seat, we think it’s only fair that an organization that represents North Dakota working people should too. North Dakota’s ballot initiative system is the best in the nation. North Dakota citizens have more rights to initiate and then vote on their own laws than any other state. This right is enshrined in our state constitution and is sacred to us… but now certain legislators want to “study” that right and see what they can do to change it, and they seem to be aiming at stack the deck to do so. We ask everyone, union or not-yet-union, to write your Senator and Representatives and let them know that the one-sided commission put forth by Rep. Koppelman and Rep. Olson is unacceptable.",
