"description": "In the last 6 years, tenants and workers have fought together to win funding for social housing at the ballot: housing that is permanently affordable and free from speculation. In Los Angeles, Measure ULA passed to fund social housing and tenant services. Now, a statewide ballot measure is advancing — the Taxpayer Deception Act — that would repeal these measures and make it harder for communities across California to pass voter-approved funding measures like it. This is a billionaire-backed, corporate real estate-funded effort to strip local governments of the tools voters gave them. Governor Newsom and state legislators are now in negotiations about potential legislation as part of an effort to persuade groups behind the Taxpayer Deception Act to pull their initiative from the ballot. Unfortunately, corporate real estate interests in Sacramento have pushed AB 736, a harmful "compromise" that will cut local funding by hundreds of millions of dollars, including for affordable and social housing. Our legislators need to hear from us clearly: protect local funding tools, stand with tenants and labor, and vote NO on AB 736.",
