"thumbnail_url": "https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg",
"description": "Earlier this year, Rusty’s, a longtime restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier, closed its doors. For many workers, this meant the sudden loss of jobs they had held for years, some for over a decade. Now, a new bar and restaurant, California Roadhouse, plans to open at its location. The Rusty’s workers were part of what made the Pier a warm and welcoming place for locals and visitors alike. Yet California Roadhouse might reopen without them! We are calling on the City of Santa Monica to pass a strong Right of Recall Ordinance and to also ensure that California Roadhouse doesn’t open without the Rusty’s workers. A Right to Recall law, if passed immediately, could ensure that when a new restaurant opens in Rusty's space, laid-off workers would be offered the first chance to return to the jobs they once held. It would also protect workers in similar circumstances in restaurants on the Pier. It’s a simple matter of justice and decency. Will you urge the Santa Monica City Council to pass a strong Right to Recall Ordinance IMMEDIATELY, and to ensure that Rusty's workers are offered the opportunity to return to work at California Roadhouse, either as part of a new lease or under the ordinance?",
