"description": "Common Cause Rhode Island has long been critical of the consolidation of power in the hands of leadership in the Rhode Island House. Now, the Rhode Island Senate leadership is trying to take that body in the same direction through a series of rules changes, making it less transparent, accountable, and democratic. We ask you to contact your state Senator and tell them to reform the proposed rules. Specifically, we oppose: Allowing the Senate President to unilaterally remove a Senator from a committee. Allowing the rules to be suspended by unanimous consent of the Majority and Minority Leaders, instead of a 2/3rds vote of the Senate. Allowing the Senate President to unilaterally approve a change to an individual Senator’s floor vote, instead of by vote of the whole body. You can learn more here.",
