"description": "The Maryland Right to Strike Coalition, including educators, labor unions, and community organizations, advocates for the repeal of the Maryalnd no strike law for PreK-12 public school employees and public library employees (except Montgomery County and Prince George's County, due to their charters). This session in the Maryland General Assembly, Delegate Eric Ebersole has sponsored HB1492, which will be heard by the House Government, Labor, and Elections Committee on March 11, 2026 at 1:00pm. Send emails to the committee members to take a favorable vote on this legislation and pass it out of committee. The Impact: We believe that all workers should have the right to strike. Without the right to strike, workers are going to the bargaining tables with our hands tied behind our backs. Employers have all their bargaining tools at their disposal, which gives them an advantage over workers, which in turn leads to less worker protection. The right to strike gives workers more bargaining tools and increases workers' bargaining power. PreK-12 public school employees and public library employees are the lead advocates for improving Maryland’s learning conditions. In order for us to better secure the conditions our communities deserve in public schools and libraries, employees in both settings need all the tools in their bargaining toolbox. Having the right to strike gives students’ and library patrons’ primary advocates more leverage at the bargaining table, which leads to better learning conditions and outcomes for our students (better resourced schools and libraries, more materials, more support, libraries/librarians in every school, smaller class sizes, etc).",
