"description": "Postmaster General David Steiner is trying to turn the United States Postal Service into a tool for Trump’s voter suppression scheme. Under the direction of Steiner, the USPS has finalized a rule based on Trump’s executive order attacking vote by mail that would block election ballots from being delivered to anyone not on a “verified citizenship” list created in part by the Department of Homeland Security. Voting by mail is safe, secure, and easy. This is nothing more than the next play to fan the flames under a false flag of election security. What’s more, election officials in Texas and Missouri have already found the DHS’s databases are inaccurate and flawed, repeatedly mis-identifying people, setting up a system that could block millions of mail in ballots across the country. That’s right, in Boone County, Missouri, more than half of the voters initially flagged as ineligible turned out to be eligible and Texas election officials have uncovered errors across dozens of counties. Let’s be clear, they know no credible investigation has ever found widespread voter fraud or illegal voting, but this has never been about election security like the Trump administration claims. This is just an attempt to use the USPS as a tool to implement a massive voter suppression campaign. That’s why Postmaster General Steiner told Congress in June point-blank that USPS would not deliver any ballot mail in states that refused to provide the voter-level data and verified citizen lists demanded under his proposed rule. The Supreme Court temporarily lifted an injunction in one lawsuit blocking the USPS from moving forward with Steiner’s plan, but the Court did not decide whether Trump’s order or Steiner’s scheme is constitutional. The Court also left the nationwide injunction from another lawsuit in place – for now. In other words, the Supreme Court’s ruling this week does not give Steiner a green light. Nevertheless Steiner finalized his rule specifically so it can move quickly if the nationwide injunction is overturned too. The Postal Board of Governors can stop this from happening – but they won’t unless we make them. Don’t let them enact Trump’s illegal voter suppression scheme. Click “START WRITING” to sign and send your message telling the USPS Board of Governors to rescind the plan to block election ballots now.",
