	"description": "Donald Trump has decided Lake Ontario should now be called “Lake America.” After trade negotiations with Canada collapsed, Trump signed an executive order attempting to rename one of the Great Lakes — another act of colonial erasure of Indigenous history. Google and Apple should not be participating in this attack on our history, but they are. After Trump’s executive order, both companies changed how the lake is labeled for people in the United States while leaving it alone for the rest of the world. These corporations claimed they did it because they had to, but that’s just not true. The lake continues to retain its name for users of their map apps everywhere else in the world. And MapQuest flat out refused to change it for anyone. MapQuest stood up to Trump and has been rewarded by consumers by becoming the number one downloaded Map App since the name change. But the fiscal incentive to change back isn’t good enough alone. Out of respect for Indigenous peoples, Apple and Google should use the same name here as is seen by the rest of the world.
