"description": "On Tuesday May 19, the Federal Lands Subcommittee of the House Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on H.R.7695, which would nullify the Roadless Area Conservation Rule. Getting rid of this crucial protection would open up 45 million acres of wild forests to for-profit logging, road-building, and resource extraction. This would fragment wildlife habitat and devastate our non-human relatives, including salmon and other species that are central to Tribes’ traditional cultural practices, subsistence, and survival. If passed, this legislation would also violate Tribal Nations’ sovereign right to co-steward their ancestral homelands and sacred places. H.R.7695 would also speed up climate change by destroying ancient trees that store climate-change-causing carbon. Wildfires are already an increasing risk due to climate change, and breaking up wild forests would absolutely increase the risk of wildfires. We must speak up now. Your U.S. Representatives need to hear from you before Tuesday’s hearing! Click “START WRITING” to send a message directly to your U.S. Representatives, urging them to push back against H.R.7695 and instead protect Tribal sovereignty, public forests, and the Roadless Area Conservation Rule.",
